A Poem to Mark the 40th Anniversary of the Opening of our Building

40 YEARS IN GOD’S HOUSE
Take your place in the Lord’s house,
Worship with us a while,
Let us embrace you with the warmth of

our honest hearts,
Like a mother to her child.
We could not greet you with
a chorus of Angels,
Or seat you in pews that boast
cathedrals pride,

We dare not say we are clothed in perfection
Or within these walls all the ills of the

world have died.

But for forty years right here we are celebrating Jesus
The years have blazed across the sky like a lengthy day

filled with memories, let me say
Our souls found a home here, friends became family

Our prayers and chosen hymns
Greeted Sunday mornings
As we gathered beneath this cross,
Right here, Right here.

We brought our children to Jesus upon this alter
Like sparkling stars they will never fall, or falter
They will carry the Gospel light and its teaching
And the memory of this church will be ever so far reaching.
But together, let’s proclaim God’s Holy name
Reach beyond that which binds us to the dark,
Lay our weaknesses to rest,
Doubtful days and uncertain nights
let us be strong at best.

The thunder in our hymns are now few and far between

And changes hang over our heads,
Like burnt out chandeliers

But we must go on thanking God in the morning
Though our numbers are dwindling
And loved ones are leaving
Don’t take your eyes off the cross

Shine your light, which have shone here for forty years

It’s the light of Christ, pass it on.
